2013 marks the 50th anniversary of Lamborghini. The company’s history is one of challenges and uncontested records, set by the ambitious talent of its founder Ferruccio Lamborghini, who decided to create the world’s most beautiful – and powerful – super sports cars at Sant’Agata Bolognese in Italy’s Emilia Romagna region.

100 years of innovation in half the time: Lamborghini was born under the sign of the Bull, with a constant view to the future, a desire to achieve the impossible and to make innovative design and technology its signature. Lamborghini celebrates its legendary 50th anniversary throughout 2013. The year-long celebrations, held in Italy and abroad, culminate on May 7 – 11, when 1200 km of Italy’s roads are invaded by hundreds of vintage and modern-day Lamborghinis from every corner of the globe, as they parade through some of the country’s most beautiful cities.

Lamborghini owners and dealers take center stage in the most memorable gathering in the history of the company as they write another important chapter in the history of automotive events.

Pressing a button in the shape of the park’s red roof, Sheikh Mohammed paid tribute to the vision of his brother and President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, “who is keen on turning the UAE into a global magnet of sports and recreational tourism through a diverse portfolio of projects that will have substantial impact on the national economy and social development.”

Hosted by Aldar Properties and Ferrari SpA, the event attracted 2000 VIP guests from the UAE and Italy. The Italian government was represented by Foreign Minister Franco Frattini and Ambassador to the UAE Giorgio Starace. Ferrari was represented by Chairman Luca di Montezemolo and Ferrari Formula 1 team drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa.

The dignitaries and guests watched the show titled Power meets Elegance inspired by the history of Abu Dhabi and the story of Ferrari. Seen through the eyes of a young boy, the two cultures are blended together through a mix of live action, acrobatics, advanced film projection techniques, and original music. Sheikh Mohammed launched the grand finale, an explosion of gigantic projections, flying pearl divers, music by an orchestra, and a fireworks display.

More than 140 Ferraris travelled across the United Arab Emirates to join the event, guided to Yas Island by Abu Dhabi Police. Ferrari Middle East & Africa in association with Al Tayer Motors, the official Ferrari importer for the UAE, and the Emirates’ Ferrari Owners’ Club organized the event as a tribute to the new theme park.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi has already captured the imagination of thousands of visitors from around the globe with a range of unique and thrilling attractions including Formula Rossa, the world’s fastest roller coaster, and Speed of Magic, the region’s first four dimensional fantasy ride.

Ahmed Al Sayegh, Chairman of Aldar Properties, said,  “This unique new attraction at the heart of Yas Island is creating excitement, not just here in Abu Dhabi, but around the world. With more than 500 million people watching the final race in this year’s Formula 1 season only three weeks ago, the eyes of the world will instantly recognize this amazing structure.”

Luca di Montezemolo, Chairman of Ferrari, said, “I would like to thank all those who made this dream a reality, and in particular our partners and the leadership of Abu Dhabi. The park just four years ago was a project, an idea, maybe even a too ambitious idea, and it is now a fantastic reality.”

He commended Aldar for its work in creating the park following “the same passion, the same vision, the same will to go beyond,” as Ferrari and added, “Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is a symbol, built actively on the heritage that Italy represents for the world. But I also like to think that this Ferrari theme park can be a small contribution to reinforcing the bridge between our two cultures.”

In October 2008, Emirates moved all operations at Dubai International Airport to Terminal 3, a new terminal exclusively dedicated to Emirates.

Emirates operates a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing wide-body aircraft and is one of only nine airlines to operate an all wide-body aircraft fleet. The centrepiece of the airline’s fleet is the Boeing 777. Emirates also has orders for 80 Airbus A380s with 10 already in service and became the second operator of the Airbus A380-800 after Singapore Airlines when their first aircraft was delivered on 28 July 2008. Emirates has won numerous awards and is an industry bellwether for aircraft purchases, purchasing over 130 aircraft in 2007 alone.

The airline ranks amongst the top 10 carriers worldwide in terms of revenue, passenger kilometres, and has become the largest airline in the Middle East in terms of revenue, fleet size, and passengers carried as of 2007. In 2009 the airline was the seventh-largest airline in the world in terms of international passengers carried, and fourth-largest in the world in terms of scheduled international passenger-kilometres flown.

Emirates has built up a strong brand name as a trendsetter in the aviation industry, particularly in terms of service excellence, coupled with consistent profitability. In 2010, Emirates was voted the eighth best airline in the world by research consultancy firm Skytrax.

Al Maktoum International Airport

Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) is a major new airport currently under construction in Jebel Ali, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Previous working names have included “Jebel Ali International Airport,” “Jebel Ali Airport City” and “Dubai World Central International Airport”.

It will be officially known as Al Maktoum International Airport. It has been named after the late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the former ruler of Dubai. It will be the main part of Dubai World Central, a planned residential, commercial and logistics complex scheme.

Dubai World Central is the world’s first truly integrated logistics platform, with most transport modes, logistics and value added services, including manufacturing and assembly, in a single bonded and Free Zone environment.

At the heart of this huge new community is the Al Maktoum International Airport, planned as the world’s largest passenger and cargo hub, ten times larger than Dubai International Airport and Dubai Cargo Village combined.

If completed as planned, the airport will have an annual cargo capacity of 12 million tons, more than three times that of Memphis International Airport, today’s largest cargo hub, and a passenger capacity between 120 million and 150 million per year – more than Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (90 million in 2008), currently the world’s busiest passenger airport.
