About Brijuni Rivijera

The Brijuni Rivijera project is one of those projects that can and must change the present situation of Istrian and Croatian tourism.

The Brijuni Rivijera project was initiated by the County of Istria with the main goal of enhancing and exploiting the potential of the Brijuni Islands and of the coastline. Especially for historical reasons the Brijuni Islands and the coastline have recently taken on an important role. Today the Islands have a national park status, while the coastline remains undeveloped and is not exploited to its full potential. One of the basic documents the firm needs to present is “The Best Use Concept” of the whole Rivijera. Simply said, this document should suggest attractions for the different Rivijera areas, regardless of whether the areas are private or government property. This brings us to the initial settings for the future development of the Brijuni Rivijera:

1. The Islands’ development is defined by the accepted plan,

2. The coastline is divided into two parts: Pula’s harbor – seen as a mix of residential-tourist area with a larger number of units, and the area across the Brijuni Islands – tourist development with a smaller number of units and real estate properties.

3. Within the area of the Brijuni Rivijera there are a few residential areas which need to be included into the project as well as the needs of the residents (public beaches, sea access, guest needs, traffic…). Development plans should be created in the inland as much as possible, as opposed to using primarily the coastline. With some areas (Bale, for example) the functional-developmental connection between the coastline and the county center (main residential area) must be defined.

4. Space must be left for future development of the Brijuni Rivijera.
