Lovran is placed on Riviera of Opatija, under Mountain Ucka. The town is surrounded by oaks and chestnut-trees, takes its name by the laurels that grow everywhere in the town and with palms and flowered bushes are the main characteristic of the vegetation.
Originally protected by walls and bastions the town conserves in its old part the antique medieval aspect.

A good climate, luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation and a favorable geographic location contributed to the rapid development of tourism during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Since that time, Lovran, together with Opatija, has been the most important locality on the famed Riviera. Several villas designed by the celebrated Viennese architect Carl Seidel dating from that period are part of the world architectural heritage.
A town and summer resort on the south-eastern coast of Istria, 5 km south of Opatija; population 3,640. The climate is extremely favourable: an average air temperature in January is 5.8 °C and in June 23.3 °C.
